This tour is a cycling holiday like no other. It offers the chance to create thrilling lifetime memories of the magical northern Italian regions of Piedmont, Lombardy and Sondrio. We provide a truly boutique experience, limited to 8 riders, with a VIP wrap to ensure your every need is catered for. We always aim to stay in 4-star accommodation and immerse ourselves in the cultural, gastronomic and aesthetic delights of these magnificent Italian regions.

The breathtaking series of lakes in northern Italy were formed some 20,000 years ago as glaciers retreated at the end of the last Ice Age, leaving a series of deep lake-filled valleys.

The tour starts in an idyllic lakeside town on Lago Maggiore. During the next four days of riding we will circumnavigate, climb up to and climb over the lakes of Lago d’Orta, Lago Lugano and Lago Como, visiting many of the picturesque towns and villages on route. We ride a loop through Switzerland which is home to many of the ‘rich and famous’ - from a cycling perspective - these roads and local climbs have been the training ground for the likes of Cadel Evans, Alberto Contador and Vincenzo Nibali who have all lived in this area.

Our next stop is Menaggio on Lago di Como which is a beautiful and relaxed resort.

The highlight of our lakes experience will be riding the final climbs upon which the Giro Lombardia is decided. IL Lombardia is the 5th and final Monument of year and brings down the curtain on the European cycling season. A ferry crossing from our hotel to Bellagio is a perfect way to start the day and it takes us straight on to the 10km climb of the hallowed Madonna del Ghisallo, which used every year in the Giro Lombardia. The church at the top is dedicated to cycling and packed with memorabilia so we should feel right at home during our visit. The Muro di Sormano climb will be a true test on a narrow path through dense forest, then we will follow the Lombardia route down into Como for lunch before riding back around the lake to Menaggio.

Leaving the lakes behind we head off to the Italian Alps which are just a short van drive away. The Alps are synonymous with the legendary climbs of the Giro d’Italia - the Gavia, Mortirolo and of course the mighty Stelvio. The thought of climbing those 48 ‘tornantes’, or switchbacks, is every cyclists dream. We will stay in Bormio, an historic alpine town that offers far more than the spectacular climbs that surround it; the old town is wonderful and a relaxation session in the Roman baths is a must.

Our tour concludes in the Austrian town of Innsbruck, host city for the 2018 UCI road world championships, it’s a great chance to relax and unwind while experiencing Austrian history and culture; its sure to enrich and enhance your European experience.

Every day we can tailor the distance and amount of climbing to ensure each person truly enjoys the experience of our northern Italy tour.
