About France - Annecy

Annecy Lake is one of the most beautiful sites to discover in the French Alps. The stunning setting of the lake is unforgettable with its blue-green glassy waters, surrounded by snow-capped mountains.

The town is located in the north of the French Alps, 40 km south of Geneva, Switzerland and 50 km from Chambéry.

Annecy is an alpine town known for its old town (Vieille Ville) with cobbled streets, colourful houses and the Canal du Thiou crossing the city forming branches of canals. One of the most picturesque of these areas lies at the foot of the hill of the Château.

The town is home to many important places and monuments and has been classified as a Town of Art and History. The medieval Château d’Annecy, was once home to the Counts of Geneva. It was bought by the town, restored and transformed into a museum, le musée-château d'Annecy.
